For the Glory of God and the Good of the World
The GospelThe following points outline the narrative structure of the Bible and constitute the Christian gospel. This is the story that has formed human history and changed the lives of all true Christians. The invitation to respond to this message is open to people of all ethnicities, cultures, and circumstances. If you read this, feel compelled to respond as described below, and do so, then all of the assurances of the gospel are yours.
The Basics of the Gospel
· An eternal, holy, loving God created the world and humanity for his own glory.
· God told humanity that in order to live forever in fellowship with him, humanity must be obedient to his commands.
· Humanity rebelled against God and as a result broke fellowship with him, invoked God’s wrath, and fell under the curse of death.
· God knew humanity’s inability to save itself from its own sinful choices, so he mercifully and graciously offered to enter into a new relationship with his people based on their trusting him to provide for their salvation.
· God made provision for his people’s salvation through the sacrificial death of his son, Jesus, wherein Jesus suffered the wrath of God that was rightfully due his people.
· God proved his power and his intentions by raising his son from the dead.
· As a result of Jesus’ sacrifice, God’s people are justified in his sight; they are also reconciled to their creator, adopted into his family, and assured of everlasting fellowship with him.
Our Response
· Faith – God expects his people to trust that what he has said to them is true, that they actually do stand in need of salvation and that he actually has provided for their salvation through the sacrifice of Jesus.
· Repentance – The natural and immediate outworking of such trust is a commitment from God’s people to reorder their lives so as to live in accordance with God’s word as revealed in the Bible.
