For the Glory of God and the Good of the World

Who We Are

Distinctives of Urania First Baptist Church

Distinctively Christian

This means that we are worshipers of the one true God, who has revealed himself to us in the persons of the Holy Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  It is by the sovereign purpose of the Father, the atoning sacrifice of the Son, and the effectual calling of the Holy Spirit that we are reconciled to God and able to love and worship him.

Distinctively Protestant

This means that we are the heirs of the Protestant Reformation, and, as such, we hold to the five solas or five guiding principles of the Reformation. These are that salvation is by grace alone (Sola Gratia), through faith alone (Sola Fide), in Christ alone, (Solus Christus), found in Scripture alone (Sola Scriptura), and for the glory of God alone (Soli Deo Gloria).

Distinctively Evangelical

This means that we are committed to the gospel of Christ’s atoning sacrifice on behalf of his people as the only hope for fallen humanity.  It is the obligation of every person who hears this message to believe the gospel and repent of his or her sin so that that person may be justified in God’s sight.

Distinctively Baptist

This means that we are uniquely passionate about the local church.  We believe among other things that it should be comprised only of baptized believers, that the local church is God’s chosen means of accomplishing his work in this world, and that when a person joins a local church they enter into a family that encourages, comforts, and is accountable to one another.
